Rebellion Pennants - FAQs

We’re getting to a point where lots of local Rebellions are close to completing at least one pennant, so we will soon have them available in the shop.

Q - How do I complete a Pennant?

A - You must do at least 6 of the listed pennant activities with the same Rebellion - it’s the Rebellion which gets the pennant, but in order to claim a badge, you need to have completed at least 6 of the activities. If your Rebellion has completed a pennant but you haven’t yet done 6 activities, you can carry on organising Rebellion activities for that pennant, and claim the badge later than others.

Q - Can I do a Pennant with a Rebellion in an area I don’t live in? (e.g. on holiday, or in a neighbouring area)

A - Yes, but you have to do that entire pennant with them - you can’t use some of your local Rebellion’s activities, and then some of another Rebellion’s for the same pennant. So if you start a pennant with another Rebellion, you will need to do all six activities with that same Rebellion.

Q - How does an activity count?

A - For an activity to count for a pennant, it must be clearly signposted in the Rebellion group, as a planned event, and at least 3 Rebels must attend. If you are doing a pennant with close friends who you knew before Rebels or family members, you shouldn’t only be doing the activities with them - the idea is they are group events where you get to know other people.

Please share photos of the activity in your Rebellion group at the time, and then in the main group when the pennant is completed. (If you do something particularly cool you can also share it in the main group at the time - but from a recording perspective, we need time stamped photos in the Rebellion group, and then full pennant posts in the main group).

Q - How many different pennant activities can you do in a day?

A - You can only do one pennant activity per day - so each pennant should take a minimum of 6 days to complete (and all 6 pennants have taken 36 days minimum). If you have a camp for example, for the Wild pennant, you can also do an adventurous activity on the 2nd day, to tick off two clauses. But if you want to tick off 3 Wild clauses, it will need to be a 3 day camp, with 2 distinct other activities. (This is to stop any groups rushing through the pennants too quickly - they are designed to encourage at least 6 different meet ups per pennant).

Q - Can our Rebellion do a pennant activity with another Rebellion?

A - If both Rebellions are doing the same pennant, you can do one of the six activities as a joint activity. This is designed to encourage groups to meet other groups, but to make sure each Rebellion is working for pennants on its own, and creating its own schedule of activities. You will need at least 3 Rebels attending from each group in order for it to count towards each Rebellion’s pennant.

Q - What happens if we only have online meet ups?

A - If you are a virtual meet up only group, some of the activities will not be suitable, but there should be 6 in each pennant you can still do, without any adaptation. You must do the activity together - eg you could all join an online art class where the teacher is teaching live. You can’t count all drawing at separate times, then joining a zoom call to show each your finished articles. The badges are designed to enhance meet up activities. (You can still do normal merit badges in the other manner, working in your own time and supporting eachother).

Q - What do we do when we’ve finished a pennant?

A - Post in the main group, and also let your Regional Moderator know how many badges you will need. Patches will be ordered towards the end of this year. When they are available, you can buy them individually, but you will need to give your local Rebellion name at the checkout phase.

Q - How big will the badges be?

A - 7cm in length.
